Accessing the UK Censuses Online

By: Sandra Beckett If you are beginning to search for your UK ancestors, you might like to know that you can do it in the comfort of your own home, IF you are connected to the internet. This is where you can find them:

Note that other databases, eg parish records, civil registration indexes, wills, etc are also available at some of the ‘pay to use’ sites. Some LDS libraries and larger genealogical societies subscribe to one or more of these subscription sites and possibly your local public library subscribes as well, so check with them. Note also that some dedicated volunteers have transcribed portions of County censuses and made these available free on the internet. Try Googling with the name of the county plus census. Finally, don’t forget the 1881 Census (both on fiche and on our computers), is freely available for searching at our library. 
