Alexander May, son of Peter May, land surveyor in the Elgin area and later on the Isle of Bute, followed his father to Bute. He took a young woman, Jenny McGillovray, whom he had impregnated, with him. On Bute she presumably gave birth to a girl, Caroline, who later in life called herself Caroline May of Invermay before she married a medical doctor from Austria, Eduard Meissner. They lived in Karlsbad and Prague and had one son, Alfred Meissner.
